Save Camp Barry — Help Us Secure a Permanent Home for Our Rescue

We’ve rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed countless dogs — and supported families so they could keep theirs. Now we need your help to give Camp Barry a forever home, built to serve our community for years to come.

For years, our mission has been simple:
Rescue dogs in need, support families so they can keep their dogs, and be a resource our community can count on.

We believe that every dog deserves not just a second chance, but the skills, structure, and support they need to thrive in a forever home. We work hand-in-hand with owners to resolve behavioral challenges, reduce surrenders, and keep families together. Most importantly, we’ve become a place people know they can turn to when their animals need help.

But now, we’re facing a turning point. The property we’ve been leasing is being sold, and while our landlords have been supportive, purchasing this space isn’t financially possible — and it wouldn’t allow us to grow into the future we envision. That’s why we are raising funds to purchase a permanent property designed for the long-term needs of our rescue, our dogs, and our community.

What We’ve Done So Far:
• During the Smith River Complex Fire, we sheltered and cared for 72 displaced cats and dogs until their families could safely return.
• Prevented over 400 dogs from being surrendered to shelters through free/donation-based training and community education.
• Partnered with the Humane Society of Del Norte to provide access to low-cost spay/neuter, helping fight overbreeding in our region.
• Rescued dogs from overcrowded neighboring shelters, including those at risk of euthanasia, rehabilitated them, and placed them in loving homes.

Who We Partner With:
Humane Society of Del Norte County – spay/neuter, vaccines, and their volunteer support
• Neighboring rescues & shelters like Redwood Pals and Humboldt County Animal Shelter
Del Norte Youth Opportunity Center – providing youth with volunteer opportunities
New Dawn Support Services – creating jobs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Del Norte Court – helping people fulfill community service through work with animals
• The general public – offering education, training, and youth volunteer opportunities

Our Vision Moving Forward:
• Continue offering spay/neuter support and expand public education programs that help families navigate everyday life with their dogs — from leash walking to household manners — so more pets stay in homes for life
• Act as a safe haven for pets and animals during local emergencies like wildfires or tsunami-related evacuations
• Provide care and rehabilitation for puppies and dogs in need of a safe place to grow healthy and balanced before finding homes

Our Goals:
Here’s what your support will make possible — both in the short term to meet urgent needs, and in the long term to build a stronger future for our rescue and community.

Short-Term Goals (Urgent Needs):
Purchase a property we can truly call our own, where we never again face the risk of being uprooted
Build a main building to safely house rescue dogs and provide space for community support

Long-Term Goals (Future Growth):
Build a boarding facility that not only helps create sustainable income for the rescue but also provides space for families in emergency situations — offering their pets a safe place at no cost while they get back on their feet
Build a sterile building that veterinarians from spay/neuter programs can utilize. Our area has very limited options for affordable veterinary care, and by providing a dedicated space, we can help expand access to these services, reduce overbreeding, and ease the burden on shelters and families alike

Our primary goal is to acquire a permanent property where our rescue will never again face being uprooted. If we fall short of that goal, please know that the dogs currently in our care will remain with us — we are fully committed to continuing their care and finding them loving homes. Any additional funds will then be shared with other local rescues and shelters that share our mission.

How You Can Help
Every dollar brings us closer to a safe, permanent home for our rescue dogs. Your donation means more dogs saved, more families supported, and a stronger community resource for years to come. If you can’t give financially, please consider sharing this campaign — your voice can help us reach the people who can make this dream possible.

Together, we can create a forever home for rescue dogs — a place where hope begins and second chances never end.

From the bottom of our hearts (and paws): thank you.
