Building an Art Residency in Congo & Continental Programmes.

Infinite FXX is a nomadic practice space influenced by individuals from urban cultural backgrounds. It represents the interconnection of soil and water through sound and performance, founded by Covco Kikaya in the UK.
After 7-8 years of thoughtful ideation, dreaming, and a continuous belief in possibilities and new landscapes, we have hosted city activations between London and Paris over the last two years.
We are launching a crowdfunding campaign to ultimately raise £300,000 for a transformative art residency rooted in Kinshasa, Central Africa, with connections spanning West Africa and the Caribbean with Programming also facilitated by the platform in the UK, Europe, US and Asia.
About the New Opening:
In a broader context, Infinite FXX was inspired by a young boy whom we affectionately referred to as "Mercy the Great Maso," which translates to "Mercy the Great Builder." He was on our plot of land constructing miniature architectural buildings and homes, hoping they would one day become his family's residence, with himself as the architect. (See the footage captured during the land visit in the accompanying picture.) The little figure, embedded in the ground, was carefully sectioned into rooms with colourfully cracked tile flooring salvaged from local development waste and loose cement taken from neighbouring construction sites. As you walk around, you see multiple little concrete structures built by these children, who mimicked the labor of a developing town, dreaming of providing their families with structure and security, establishing their presence in a place they call home—the DRC. We actively acknowledge the pioneering resilience of this region, characterised by its sonic brigade, parades, and larger-than-life potential amid 30+ years of turmoil and resource extraction, which profoundly underpin the industrialised vision and desires of the "future," particularly in the Western world. We aim to stretch hope, possibility, and experimental endeavours, rooted in London, to Kinshasa.
Infinite FXX serves as the engine to support the development of an artist residency in Kinshasa, fostering local communities and assisting artists in their artistic and practical ambitions. We aim to provide labor support and hold programming for displaced artists, refugees, and global Congolese migrants - like Mercy, who continues to dream despite chaos and hardship. Our workshops will delve into cross-cultural dialogues and exchanges led by both local residents and international artists/practitioners, with humble opportunities for collaboration, hospitality, and accommodations provided by local residents and partnerships with art spaces across Africa and global connections.

Why this matters:
This project is born from labor, not privilege rooted in the belief that art can break cycles, inspire the future, and build community. We want to cultivate a community where we can learn from each other and expand historical and contemporary horizons, establishing equal grounds for making and expression.
Art residencies are often inaccessible to artists from underrepresented communities, especially those facing migration, displacement, or limitations imposed by history, as well as those seeking new creative horizons. This project provides opportunities to be exposed to new landscapes and languages of expression and experimentation.
It is essential to open up opportunities with the tools we have for the people of Congo, no matter how small or large. We aim to offer chances that are often accessible in neighbouring countries and global contexts. Congo is a place that holds an abundance of life, talent, innovation, teachers, masters, and students, yet it lacks sincere care and support. As we navigate life in 2025, this is the time for new opportunities, happenings, stories, care, and support.
Infinite FXX will be a space where artists can:
- Live and create in an immersive environment.
- Collaborate with local and international communities.
- Develop their practises into spaces of professionalism.
- Uplifts new voices and allows for new imaginations.
Your contributions will help establish a self-sustaining creative space, a new generation of a supportive and creative eco-system ensuring that artists regardless of financial background, have a space to dream, explore, communicate, and share.
