Building a Local Scotland: Holyrood and Beyond

Donation protected
At the founding of the Scottish Parliament, Scotland was promised genuine local democracy. Instead, Scotland has gone in the opposite direction, with increased centralisation and no sign of true local democracy.

On this, the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament, the time is right to fix this democratic deficit. We believe the future of our nation lies not just in Edinburgh, but in the heart of our communities.

Building a Local Scotland is a groundbreaking cross-party project aiming to explore the potential of devolution of power beyond Holyrood. We're committed to advocating for a Scotland where power is truly distributed, and decisions are made closer to the people they affect.

Your support is crucial in making this vision a reality. We need your help to fund:

  • Creation of informative resources and publications
  • Building a strong online presence and a wider media campaign
  • Community engagement and consultation
  • Large scale participatory consensus building events

By contributing to this campaign, you're investing in a Scotland where every voice matters. Let's build a future where our communities thrive!

Every penny counts. Thank you for your support.

Background
In early 2024 a group of unlikely allies from across the Scottish political spectrum convened with a shared purpose; to bring into sharp focus the democratic deficit that sits at the heart of Scottish Politics whichever side of the constitutional divide you reside on.

Throughout the year the team has worked together to form a declaration that we could all get behind - a statement of intent that would shape the next steps forward. The intention is to build a movement culminating in holding a citizens assembly which will gather evidence and deliberate on how real power can be devolved to the people living in our communities.

We call on organisations and citizens from across Scotland to join us in the campaign - demand a reversal of centralisation, redress the balance of power and Build a Local Scotland.
