Eagle Scout: Support the Archery Range Revamp!

Hi, my name is Daniel Slack, and I have autism. Scouts is a significant part of my journey in helping me learn to overcome the challenges Autism presents. When I was younger, it was tough to talk to people, and I did not enjoy feeling lonely. When I joined Scouts, I started to come out of my shell. Through the weekly meetings, I could finally find others like me to make friends with. I liked camping and building fires. I was very scared on my first campout because I didn't have my dad there. I burned pasta and refused to participate in the wash line. I ended up calling my dad to pick me up. Now, I am one of the people leading the wash and cook lines, and I have held many leadership positions and taken a week-long Youth Leadership training course. I backpacked through Yellowstone, and New Mexico at a place called Philmont. Looking back, I can now see how my autism really affected my first few years in scouting, and now I know that I won’t let it hold me back from reaching my goals. That’s why becoming an Eagle Scout is something that I have always wanted and now that I can see the finish line, it is something that I know if I work hard, I can get. It will mean the world to me to get Eagle Scout because of the doors it will open, but it also proves that I am finishing one chapter of my life and starting the next one. For my Eagle Scout project, I am focusing on revitalizing our local archery range. I plan to build shelves, lay mulch on the trails, and add gravel to even out the paths, making the range not only safer but also more inviting. My goal is to transform the archery range into a vibrant community spot that encourages more people to discover and enjoy archery.
