Build Dave's Dream & Beat Cancer

Donation protected
In January 2016, after much pain and discomfort for a few months my then 27 year old brother David went to the Dr about a very sensitive issue. Within 48hrs he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and the next day he was under the knife having an orchidectomy. Unfortunately that wasn't to be the happy ending we'd hoped for. His cancer was aggressive and had spread to his lymph nodes and abdomen. He underwent his first of 9 rounds of chemo in September 2016. After the first round of chemo he had to wait 12 weeks for a checkup... a tumor 12cm in diameter had grown near his stomach. 1cm a week! His Drs couldn't believe how agressive it was and started consulting with doctors overseas. His next chemo was 3 times the normal dose... but again it kept growing. Whilst recovering from his chemo he caught a chicken pox super bug in the hospital. Within 2 days of having spots his organs started failing. He ended up in ICU with double pneumonia and encephalitis. We were told he had 12hrs to fight for his life... and fight he did. His high temperature broke and he started to improve just before being intubated and being put on life support. The dr said it was a miracle... we say he's stubborn. He then underwent lymph node dissection surgery in March 17 to remove his lymph nodes and as much of the cancer as possible. When they got in there for this 13hr surgery most of his organs were removed and cleaned but as a result the main artery to one of his kidneys had to be taken. This kidney died a few weeks later. I was in there waiting for him when he came out of surgery, he couldn't move and we thought he was unconcious. I (of course) was talking to him anyway, I told him his nephew needed to know he was okay ... Slowly Dave's hand moved and he gave me a thumbs up. Everyone was in shock, but that's my bro! After a stint in ICU he bounced back well... but 6 weeks later he had that familiar pain and we discovered more cancer was growing. Another 6 rounds of chemo at triple dose and 5 months in Nepean Hospital. He held the record for the person who had been there the longest.. not a great record. His mental health was suffering and he just kept saying "I better not die. If someone else finishes my car and I don't get to drive it I'll be pissed" He managed to go home to Griffith for a visit between checkups. He spent hours just sitting in his car cleaning what he could and going over the parts. He'd pulled it apart to rebuild it before he got sick... his car is his girlfriend, baby and happy place rolled into one. He was only home a couple of weeks, not the 10 he'd hoped and got very sick and hospitalised in Griffith and then brought back to Penrith and put back in Nepean Hospital.  January 2018 he underwent extreme radiation therapy. It was a one shot kinda deal. Unfortunately it didn't work either but has degenerated his spine. Now he's about to undergo a stem cell transplant. His biggest challenge so far and last chance. He's been made no promises but his oncology team is so amazed by him they won't give up. He should be dead 5 times over... but he's not. Before his appointment last night Dave was unusually low and opened up to our mum... very rare. He's a quiet bloke... "Mum, what if this doesn't work?"... "Am I going to be in a wheelchair?"... "Will my hands and feet get worse? I will never be able to finish my car" Mum just reassured him that he'd get through this... just like he always does. She asked if there was ANY place he wanted to visit or anything he wanted to experience... he said "No mum. I'm okay. I just want to be able to drive my car." Mum told me this so here I am doing anything I can do to make his dream a reality. That's my job... I'm his big sister. Even if he beats this cruel disease he's going to have lifelong issues so I need to bring him a reason to smile. He will have to endure: *Never being able to father children *Only one poorly functioning kidney. Probable need for dialysis or transplant  *A highly degenerated spine causing pain *Permanent pins and needles and weakness in his hand and feet. This drives him crazy  *Completely obliterated immune system *Lots of pretty huge scars that he hates  *Constant checks and the possibility it will return  This guy has not had any good news or luck in such a long time. I am begging you to help me make him smile. Give him something to live for ❤ ABOUT THE CAR: Dave's pride and joy is a 1987 (Same vintage as him) Holden VL Commodore. He bought this car on the 25th of July 2006. I know this because it's also the day his nephew was born and I had to wait for him to pick up his baby before he came to see mine!! Dave pulled his car apart to make it into the beast he wanted... he spent every cent he had (and even some he didn't) buying parts for his car. He had work done to the motor and then he got sick. He couldn't be treated at home in Griffith and has been in Penrith most of the time since. Now Dave is a bit of a perfectionist so he has 2 or 3 of alot of parts for his VL because he would buy one... then find a better one... then another better one. He has many boxes of brand new parts in his bedroom (safer there) and 2nd hand parts all sorted in neat rows in the garage (think wrecking yard). We need to figure out what he has and doesn't have and get the car and the useful parts up to Newcastle (10hrs North) to start the process of putting this puzzle back together. This is not easy as he's got things stashed like a Columbian Drug Lord but he underestimates my sneakiness and determination.... so far we've located his keys which was a mean feat itself! Doing all this without him knowing is going to be difficult but it's going to happen. It has to happen. He is a very quiet private guy and under the impression nobody cares about him... this will definitely prove otherwise! To anyone who has donated, shared this campaign, offered their time or wished my brother well... I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Unfortunately after having surgery on the 2nd of July Dave got some pretty rotten news. His cancer is spreading aggressively and not responding to the chemo or radiation therapy. Options are pretty much exhausted as far as treatment goes so we're trying some alternative treatment that might help him get back on top of things. Now more than ever I really need help to get this car done ASAP. I'd love him to be able to drive it while he can and see it finished. Please share this or help in any way you can.
