Recently Zac was stricken with unbearable pain and began losing function of his lower body. A MRI revealed that he had a disc in his lower back that was causing nerve damage and was sent to have emergency spinal surgery. The surgery went as expected and will hopefully prevent further damage to his nerves, which the medical team referred to as Cauda Equina Syndrome. This rare condition has left him with very low function of his lower body and full recovery is uncertain in the coming years. He is currently in rehabilitation therapy has been strong in his spirit and determined to rebuild his strength and reclaim some of his independence while learning to live in a wheelchair. Before all of this started, we started the process of buying a house and not knowing at the time how much we were going to need this style of one level home. We are now in the final stages of purchasing this home and we are asking our friends and loved ones who want to help for funds to build handicap friendly features so that Zac may return home from rehabilitation and continue his healing journey. His wife and two young daughters will need every tool possible to care for him and provide a safe environment, including ramps, support handles, lifts, and specialty chairs.
