Build the Terrace-Thornhill Community Bouldering Wall
Donation protected
Terrace is in need of affordable year-round recreation, which is how the Skeena Climbing Society (SCS) was born. The core mission of the non-profit is to reduce barriers to climbing by campaigning for public access to an indoor climbing gym. The SCS negotiated for 2 hr/week at the Caledonia climbing wall, which was successfully run by volunteers since 2017.
The ultimate purpose of the SCS is now underway, to establish a permanent climb space with regular operating hours. With a space secured in Thornhill, a team of volunteers and initial grant feedback, we are ready to fundraise. We need a vote of community support in the order of 10K to renew grant applications and move to the next fundraising step.
The proposed Thornhill Boulder Gym will meet a major need in the broader community for beginner-friendly and low-cost recreation options. The non-profit operating model of Shames My Mountain Co-op demonstrates a commitment the people of Terrace to protect valued pillars of our community, such as skiing. The non-profit model can work for us too.
Build community. Build the wall.

Fundraising will be completed in two tranches – an initial raise among community members for the seed fund (10K; exclusively on gofundme) followed by a second raise for the build fund currently estimated at 90K. The second raise is a multi-pronged strategy with parallel fundraising via grant applications, canvassing of local companies and stakeholders, and continuing community sponsorship with gofundme until the goal reached. The total cost of the build is undergoing revisions pending generation of a revised build design.
