Support Sustainable Farming in Northern Uganda

Donation protected
Greetings, my name is Okumu Boniface and I am the owner and director of Oxen Clinic Uganda. Since 2017, Oxen Clinic Uganda has been dedicated to teaching farmers in northern Uganda how to farm better by introducing innovative practices in conservation agriculture, efficient locally produced farming tools, and improved methods of harnessing animals for work. We have community-based trainers in nine districts and currently work with farmer groups in three districts, supporting over 1,400 members. You can learn more about our work at our website

The majority of farmers in our area are smallholder farmers with 1-3 acres of land. Most farm operations are done by hand, and some use animal power (oxen) for land preparation. Transportation of farm inputs and harvests is often done by head, bicycle, or motorcycle, depending on what is affordable. Despite these challenges, farmers remain optimistic, growing crops like beans, soy, cassava, sweet potatoes, maize, and groundnuts, and raising livestock such as chickens, goats, pigs, and cattle.

Currently, our facility has three grass-thatched houses, a two-room temporary structure for the caretaker and storage, a chicken house made of iron sheets, and a pit latrine. We also give part of the property to local farmers to grow maize to support their households with food. The Oxen Clinic Uganda training and demonstration facility is located approximately 35km west of Gulu, northern Uganda. You can find us on the map HERE

Our vision is to develop the center into an integrated model farm, improving community access to skills and knowledge on soil fertility, agricultural advisory services, climate-smart agriculture, animal training techniques, and access to well-trained oxen for ploughing, transport, planting, and weeding. We plan to fence the property for security, drill a borehole for water, build a guest house, training hall, and store, and create demonstration sites for rainwater catchment, kitchen gardens, bio-fertilizer, orchards, coffee, bananas, neem trees, apiary, pasture, agroforestry, and livestock such as chickens, goats, pigs, and rabbits.

Your support will help us build and expand this center, empowering farmers to thrive and ensuring a more resilient and sustainable future for our communities. Please join us in making this vision a reality.
