The Garhwal English Medium School is a not for profit charitable school. We began in 2009 in response to the poor quality of education in our area. My husband and I wanted to provide our village children with the tools to be competitive in the world and to break the cycle of poverty. We began in a cow shed with just 8 students and quickly grew to include more than 200. We were offered a new building and promised all the hopes and dreams we had for our children would come true. But the foundation who offered us such an opportunity were corrupt and really only wanted a facade of a school, and used us to gain the land. We were ousted from the building after five years and four court cases which the judge ruled in our favour. Finally they found a corrupt judge in the High court who overthrew the decisions of the other four judges and we had to relocate very quickly. So we are in a tin building at the moment, but it is very difficult to teach as it is noisy, dusty, and we can not offer all the learning resources we would like. Our children deserve so much more. They are so bright and eager to learn. Our children know the value of an education. I know that with a proper computer lab, library and science lab the whole world would open up to them. So please help us build this school - one room at a time. Thank you.
