build nest boxes for swifts in Aylsham

Aylsham Swift Group was set up in 2022 to try to help our small population of swifts nest successfully and increase their numbers. These amazing birds spend their whole lives in the air and only touch anything solid when they come down into our buildings to breed. Nationally swift numbers have plummeted by around 50% since the 1970s. We don't understand all the reasons for this but one reason is loss of nest sites. Building renovations often block off the little gaps under roof tiles where swifts love to nest. We can help these special birds by providing them with new nesting opportunities in special boxes. This fundraiser aims to raise enough money to buy the materials to make 6 swift boxes which will be made by members of Aylsham Men's Shed. We will then be able to sell them to residents for less than the cost of buying boxes commercially.
