Build Deijha Vu’s Restaurant

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Deijha Gordon and for the very first time in my life, I visited Africa! It was December 2015.

Who knew that one trip to Ghana would lead to me leaving everything I knew behind, friends, family, a federal government job, to relocating there. That’s right! I left the comfort of familiarity to follow a fire inside of me, this vision that I had of opening a Jamaican restaurant in Ghana.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was at work, working on these huge industrial machines! It was so loud and honestly, my soul was not happy there. I would listen to music to escape the gray, dull, and dusty environment. As I’m doing my job and jamming to Hello Mama Africa by Garnet silk, I experienced something so profound that I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes! It’s like one minute I was at work and the next minute I was in the middle of my restaurant at the grand opening!

So let me tell you exactly how it went down. It was night time, it was a cool breeze in the air, the inside of the restaurant was packed, there were red lights to accent the paintings on the walls! I could smell the aroma of the mixture of herbs and spices that was being cooked, and I could hear everyone around me enjoying and having a good time. As I’m taking all of this in, greeting people, thanking them for coming, I was walking towards the kitchen and right before opening the kitchen door, I just stood there and cried my eyes out! It hit me right then and there. I couldn’t believe that I actually did it! I actually built, managed, decorated, furnished and trained people to make this moment happen. I ACTUALLY OPENED MY RESTAURANT IN GHANA IN ONE OF THE MOST PRIME AREAS!

Some may call that day dreaming, to me, I consider it a vision. It was clear as day! So detailed that I just knew I had to follow through with it. However, cooking or running a restaurant was never something that I saw for myself, but because I got that vision and because it was something completely out of my league, I thought it was given to me by a higher power. I thought no way could I have created such an idea. It activated ALL five senses to let me know that this can be reality. I had a comforting feeling within me, letting me know that if I follow this vision, everything will be ok.

Now, let’s fast forward to October 2019. I officially made my move to Ghana! It has had its challenges but it has also been extremely rewarding. I got my own apartment, built a food truck, registered my business, made a few friends, was featured on a few shows, I was even part of the very first Family Feud Africa!

I had it all planned out and it was going accordingly. I was up and running, taking orders and even planning my first event as a vendor.  I would never forget, Saturday I was prepping for this event for Monday,  Sunday the coordinator called me and told me the entire week long event was canceled! That’s when everything came crashing down.  That was the last day of any normalcy. The entire world would never be the same.  Covid 19.

Everything that I had planned changed. I questioned my timing of taking such a risk. Did I make a mistake? Was I foolish for believing in this vision?

I have made my way through Ghana learned a lot, gained a lot and also lost. In anything in life we will experience trials and tribulations. But no matter what I’m faced with I keep going. There isn’t any obstacle that is bigger than my goal.

With your donations, I will be able to finish construction work that’s already started, purchase quality kitchen equipment to bring quality dishes to my customers, furnish and decorate the entire restaurant, train and hire staff, market my business and brand, and last but not least make that vision reality!

Help me make that vision come true and trust that I will not stop until I am actually
LIVING OUT THAT DREAM!
