Build an orchard at Steller Secondary School
Tax deductible
Hello! Want to help support a great project that increases local food security, puts healthy food on young people's plates, and educates students about both agriculture and business? Better yet, want to help accomplish all of this on public school property and create a model that other schools can follow?
We are hoping to build a 60 tree apple orchard at Steller Secondary School this summer. Our hope is to create something that lasts beyond a season, and give back to the school and the community for decades to come. Our plan is to use the fruit grown in the orchard to sell to local breweries, bakeries and restaurants, and sell via Arctic Harvest Deliveries CSA. Additionally, some of the produce grown in the orchard will go home with students, and some will be donated to local organizations such as Beans Cafe, local food pantries, and Food Bank of Alaska. Profits from the produce sales will go back into school activities, and Alaska Seeds of Change.
Your contribution will go a long way towards helping our community become more food secure, strengthening local businesses, and educating our children about food security for years to come.
In the very unlikely event that this project is not able to be completed, any donated funds will go to Alaska Seeds of Change to continue growing fruit and produce in their Steller school garden, and to their Stickleback Farm project on 3rd ave. Any contributions in excess of what are needed to build the orchard will be given to Alaska Seeds of Change to help maintain the orchard.
