Please lend your support by donating to help us build a Little Free Library at Federoff Triangle, a neighborly Queens Boulevard park, bounded by 67th Road & 102nd Street, which feels like a town center in Forest Hills.
The Little Free Library would accommodate 20 to 30 books on average, where residents could donate a book and/or take a book home or read it in the park. This would inspire everyone from local children to seniors, including parkgoers.
I feel that books should not be discarded, since we can give the gift of education, while embracing a green initiative. Access to books would also help establish bonds and enable simple pleasures.
This Little Free Library would be architecturally-inspired and celebrate our history. The theme will be a relevant and unique surprise, and this library unit will become part of a large network of creative Little Free Libraries citywide, nationally, and internationally. It will be officially registered and placed on their library map.
I had productive meetings with the Parks Department, and I retained Architect Mateo Gaon of Cantos Inc, an engineering, construction, and architectural firm that is DBE and MBE Certified. I will also work with a builder and an engineer, a requirement for designing a proper foundation to ensure stability and curb vandalism. It will be waterproof and treated to counteract graffiti. High-quality materials will be used.
The Little Free Library will be maintained by volunteers including myself. Producing scaled drawings, renderings, and 3D modeling is among the various necessary design and building stages to develop a creative and highly beneficial project that is built to last.
As a 5th generation Forest Hills resident, author, reader, and historic and architectural preservationist, this beneficial community project has been my vision since 2023. Please donate, and through teamwork, we can inspire and uniquely build community in a historic park.
Thank you,
Michael Perlman
