Sited at the mouth of the River Tees near key haul out sites at Seal Sands and Greatham Creek, the Teesmouth Seal Rescue and Coastal Conservation Centre aims to rehabilitate and release rescued seals back into their local environment, supporting the long-term stability of the river’s sensitive harbour seal population and the grey seals along the North East coast. The planned renovations include indoor dry and wet hospital pens, large outdoor pre-release pools, a comprehensive life-support/filtration system, a veterinary treatment room with laboratory, food preparation, storage, and hygiene areas, and volunteer facilities. Our education centre will host groups of all ages to learn about local natural history, wildlife rehabilitation, conservation, and research conducted by the centre in partnership with local environmental stakeholders.
Our first goal is to raise £10,000 towards the £50,000 needed to cover necessary planning permission and building control applications as well as Environment Agency permits and Marine Management Organisation and Crown Estate licenses.
