Help Build a Safe Place for Charlie and His Service Dog!

Twelve-year-old Charlie has lived with the relentless challenges of Autism and Panic Disorder—but as he’s grown older, life has become exponentially harder.

What used to be manageable has now become inaccessible. Charlie experiences debilitating panic attacks that make even the most ordinary parts of life—school, church, sports, social events, even trips to the grocery store—feel overwhelming and impossible. The loudness of life, the unpredictability of people, and the constant sensory input can send him spiraling into fear within seconds.

Once Joyful, Now Fearful

Charlie used to find joy playing team sports and engaging in social events with family and friends, but today, those spaces trigger his panic. He’s lost access to things he once loved—simply because his world has become too loud, too chaotic, and too scary in his mind.

There’s only one place where Charlie consistently feels calm: His backyard. In that quiet, open space, alone with his thoughts, Charlie finds serenity. It is his sanctuary—his escape from the overstimulation of daily life.

A New Hope- His Service Dog

After years of struggle, Charlie was finally matched with a specially trained Service Dog - Wendy; a companion who will help him navigate life in ways no one else can. Service Dog Wendy will:

· Interrupt panic attacks before they take over

· Provide deep pressure therapy to help regulate Charlie’s nervous system

· Offer silent companionship, comfort, and protection

· Be by Charlie’s side providing comfort in his hardest moments

· Wendy is not just a helper. This is Charlie’s lifeline.

But for this to work—for the bond to be strong, for the trust to grow—Charlie and Wendy must spend time together freely, every single day. That means they need full access to Charlie’s favorite safe space: his backyard.

Why We Need Your Help

Right now, Charlie’s backyard is not fenced, which means his Service Dog cannot be off-leash. If his family is able to install a secure fence, Charlie’s sanctuary will be more accessible and comfortable to move around more freely. In this space, they will:

· Bond through play and freedom

· Train in a low-stress setting

· Build trust in the place Charlie feels the safest

What the Family has Already Sacrificed

Charlie’s family has invested all of their disposable income to prepare for this moment:

· They traded in their car to afford the purchase of a vehicle large enough for the dog.

· They bought a large bed so the dog can sleep with Charlie and prevent nighttime panic / sleep interruption.

· They previously traveled out of state for in-person interviews and trial training.

· Matt took two-weeks off work to attend the training program.

· Angie does not work so she can devote all of her time to guiding and managing supports for Charlie.

· All of this and more has placed them under immense financial pressure.

Now, they are asking for help from those who believe in love, healing, and second chances.

We’re raising funds to install a secure fence with a land survey of property boundaries around Charlie’s backyard —so Service Dog Wendy can join him there safely, off-leash, every day.
