The Friends of Zimbabwe Foundation is urgently seeking your support to complete a crucial project at Chamukwenjera Primary School in Chivhu, Zimbabwe. Our mission is to build adequate and sustainable housing for the dedicated teachers who educate and inspire the children of this community. Without local housing, many qualified teachers are unable to stay and teach, significantly impacting the quality of education the students receive.

Why this project matters
Currently, Chamukwenjera Primary School suffers from a severe lack of teacher accommodations due to inadequate government funding. The existing housing is in deplorable condition, making it impossible to attract and retain skilled educators. Teachers often come from distant areas and cannot afford to travel daily, leaving the school short-staffed and the students without consistent, high-quality education.

Our goals
- Construct safe and sustainable housing: Build new, durable housing units that will attract and retain qualified teachers from diverse regions, ensuring that students receive the education they deserve.
- Foster community involvement: Engage the local community in the construction process, providing materials such as bricks and sand to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility.
- Ensure project sustainability: Build partnerships with local authorities and organizations to guarantee ongoing support and maintenance of the housing units.
- Improve education quality: Enhance teacher retention rates and improve student performance metrics, such as test scores and graduation rates, by providing stable and adequate living conditions for teachers.

Our plan
- Community engagement: The local community will contribute materials such as bricks, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility.
- Use of raised funds: Funds already raised will be used to purchase cement and hire labor for laying the foundation of the new housing units.
- Construction: Under the supervision of our chairman, Prince Matizha, we will collaborate with a locally recommended contractor to build the first floor and roof of the housing units. Prince was on-site in April this year to oversee the project and ensure quality and adherence to timelines.
- Utility installation: Install necessary utilities such as electricity and water, and complete the interior and exterior finishing to make the buildings habitable.
- Monitoring and evaluation: Regularly monitor construction progress and evaluate the project’s impact on teacher retention and student performance through feedback from the school and community.
