A workshop in our old space. Introduction to screen printing.

After a 4-year hiatus, Super G Print Lab LLC has found a new home! We lost hope of locating a space due to the exploding commercial rental market in Durham, North Carolina. Skyrocketing rent was why we lost our previous lease. Fortunately, the print gods smiled on us, and we found a great 1000-square-foot space at a reasonable rate three blocks from our old home. The lease was signed on October 1st, 2022, and we’re now getting the studio ready to welcome screen printers near and far. The word on the street is that we’re the only community screen print studio in North Carolina! To serve this crowd of hungry printers, we’re looking to raise $9330 to cover the costs of up fitting the studio.

How will the funds be used?
• Electrical upgrades, including a few more outlets.
• Adding plumbing to a utility sink and washout booth.
• Fixing interior walls - drywalling.
• Adding three interior doors.
• Painting the whole space – floor and walls.
• Updating locks on exterior doors.
• Adding some exterior security fencing (a shared expense with the landlord).
AND LASTLY BUT MAYBE MOST IMPORTANT: Procuring an exposure unit. We found a terrific unit for a great price, but it’s in Florida. We’ll need to rent a truck to bring it to North Carolina.
Funding these needs will get us up and running. Fortunately, all the other equipment and materials needed to start the studio have been in storage from the first Super G Print Lab. These include a washout booth, squeegees, paper, ink, two large drying racks, tables and chairs.

How will funds be used if we go over our goal?
If we get more funding than our goal, we'll use it to run free community/youth workshops and pay to bring in nonlocal visiting printmakers (special guests) to teach workshops. SPREADING THE GOSPEL OF PRINT IS OUR MISSION!

Once we’re on our feet, we'll be self-supporting.
The Super G Print Lab LLC business plan continues the successful model used in our previous space. Now that we have reasonable rent, sustainability will be a reality!
Our model:
• Memberships: $30 a month.
• Hourly studio use fee: $5 per hour.
• Workshop fee: $125 per participant. Usually, 5-7 participants per workshop. We plan to run two workshops per month.
• We're for hire to run live printing events. $200 per printer per event.
• Contract printing. Hourly rate depending on the complexity of the project.
• Poster design services. Flat fee depending on the design and number of colors.
