Hi, I'm Drew, a US Expat and hotel owner living on Isla Solarte in Bocas del Toro, Panama.
We're raising $15,000 to build a covered pavilion at the local school where the 80 students can play sports, learn, and celebrate, regardless of the weather.
The parents from our community have agreed to build the pavilion for free; all we have to do is raise the money for the materials, and that's where you can help!
Why a Pavilion?
The Solarte Uno school supports education from kindergarten through 6th grade for our island, and features 4 classrooms, a cafeteria, and a large open field for recess and school assemblies.
Currently, however, there is no covered outdoor area to use when it rains (or to provide shade from the hot Panamanian sun), so students either stay in the classroom during recess or have their events outside in the rain.
Some of the primary uses of the new pavilion will be:
- Practice for school presentations, like the school marching band, or traditional holiday celebrations
- Community meetings
- Recess and sports
How Your Donation Helps:
Every dollar we raise will go directly towards building the school pavilion, with the main costs being materials, transportation of materials to the school, tools to build it, and a local contractor to oversee the construction. The labor for the construction will be provided free from the parents of the students, so we just need to support them with the materials!
Any excess funds at the end of the project will be used to buy school supplies or other immediate needs, like solar system equipment.
Every dollar counts - $10, $20, or $1,000 - your donation will have a direct impact on the children of our community!
