Hi. My name is Carol Mifsud. I have been a volunteer with Brenda Ramos/Refugio Ramos for five years. Brenda is a true hero to the animals. She lives with very little, yet gives everything to the dogs in her care. Her days are filled with hard work, sacrifice, and love — all for the animals who have no one else.
THE REFUGE
At Refugio Ramos, a humble refuge in Mexico, one woman is making a life-changing impact on the lives of over 100 abandoned street dogs and 40 cats. Her name is Brenda Ramos, and for years she has dedicated herself to giving these animals a place to call home. With no government support and only the help of kind-hearted donors and the sale of a few small items from her new and used retail shop, Brenda has managed to provide, shelter, food and care for the most vulnerable creatures in her community that she has rescued.
But now, Brenda’s mission is at risk. The local municipality has ordered her to relocate her refuge due to noise concerns, and the clock is ticking.
Brendas dream: a new, safe home for the animals.
Brenda has found a small piece of land for the refuge, and with your help, she can make it a reality. She could build a proper, permanent refuge where the animals will be protected. However, she needs 500,000 pesos ($38,000 Canadian, $27,000 US) to make this dream a reality: to buy the land, build fences, create a safe space, and ensure these animals have a future. Brenda's Story
Brenda’s journey began with one dog—emaciated and in pain. From that moment, she couldn’t turn her back. Despite having very little, she began to care for the stray animals in her community. Years later, her refuge has grown to house more than 120 animals, each with their own story of abandonment and hope.
