BUILD A NEW CHAPEL DECK FOR GOLDEN VALLEY CAMP!!!

In 1982, Wilma Schoenlein donated money to build a beautiful chapel deck in memory of her beloved husband, Herman Schoenlein.

For many years, that deck has served Golden Valley Camp and all her campers exceptionally well. It has been a very special place of worship, praise, preaching, teaching, camp announcements, roll call, and just good clean camp silliness! Almost everyone has a fond memory from that deck.

As you can imagine, after 40 years of being out in the open and exposed to all the northern California elements, the deck desperately needs to be rebuilt entirely.

Although that specific deck and all the beautiful memories made there can never be replaced, the entire structure of cement pylons, sub-floor, stairs, electrical, top boards and benches...DO. We plan to keep the original design (complete with a giant tree growing up from the center and the hand-carved alter) while making a few necessary improvements.

I wish I could say the price of a new deck in 2022 is the same price Wilma paid Four decades ago but unfortunately, the prices have increased dramatically since then. Our new plans will require 13,000.00 dollars from the new foundation to the final nail.

Our fundraiser starts today, November 30, 2022, runs for one month and ends on December 31, 2022. We have the camp board and GVC Staff in place as volunteers for demo and construction, but Golden Valley Camp needs another Wilma, or a bunch of Wilmas, to fund a brand new deck for the chapel. Time is of the essence as this project needs to be completed before the rains, and the first camp arrives in January.
