The Build A Girl Project was founded by Fiona Broadfoot, a survivor of Child Sexual Exploitation.
The project provides a safe and therapeutic environment for Girls and Young Women to 'Build A' Unique self by; raising aspirations and self-esteem. Empowering girls and young women to make safe and informed choices and healthy relationships.
Build A Girl’s latest project is a Performing Arts Summer School that will culminate in a production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ adapted and directed by Chloe, who has been a member of Build A Girl for two years. The community that our members come from is deprived when it comes to opportunities for the girls and young women and this project will allow them to work with Professional Theatre Practitioners, Wardrobe Companies and perform at a local theatre space in front of parents, carers, friends and the community.
Our funding aim is £5000, this money will cover the cost of hiring professional costumes, workshops lead by professionals, set design, props and a Theatre Trip that will allow the girls and young women to experience live theatre and take inspiration from a professional production. Any remaining money will be put back into Build A Girl to allow more workshops, events and productions for the local community.
“I feel like it is a great place for girls from different backgrounds to come together and relax. It brings together girls that wouldn’t necessarily be friends. I love going there”
“ It’s a great place for girls to go and have a conversation with people without being judged even if they know they have made a mistake”
