Build a dog rescue holding facility Okanogan Co!
Okanogan Angels is a non profit organization focused on Lost, found, abandoned animals with outcomes of rescuing, fostering, transporting, and adopting. Priority also focusing on low income spay and neuter for canines. We are in desperate need of an animal shelter/holding facility for our county!!!
Okanogan County is the largest county in Washington State, it is the least human populated, but we have an animal crisis on our hands and one small rescue that is almost always at capacity. We are getting calls from the animal control officers(ACO) almost daily, and they will have to begin euthanizing animals soon if we cannot find another way to help! We have been able to get placements in adjoining county shelters about a dozen puppies every two weeks - but they are at capacity too. Just this week we have 8 adoptable age dogs and six 4-week old puppies in foster care, six more dogs in one ACO facility needing immediate foster care, and that ACO has 8 more puppies that will need to be moved in two weeks, with no placements in sight.
We have found an amazing property in Okanogan County, that already has a caretaker home, a large shop facility to repurpose into kennels and outbuildings for other various storage or kennels as needed. We would also need to immediately install additional fencing and indoor/outdoor kennels. The price tag for this and all the closing fees is estimated to be $800,000.
We have a hurdle to overcome before we can make a new holding facility a reality. We need the capital to purchase the property outright.
We started out small, collecting donations from the local community - this has helped us feed the dogs in foster and put money toward our Low-Income spay/neuter vouchers. Now we need larger donations to make the rest of this need a reality. We as a society cannot just sit back and watch as dogs are getting left on the side of the road - enough dog food to feed on for a week, while waiting patiently for their owner to come back. Or for that “junkyard” dog, that likely escaped being beaten and chose to live among the feral cat colony, sneaking a little bit of their food and water just to survive the 0* temperatures before being trapped and placed into an emergency foster.
The time is NOW - we need to make that difference TODAY!
