Build a borehole in Aragudad, Kenya

Lammack Prayer Room together with Mountian of Mercy, had a successful charity deployment in November 2022, where we sent a team to Kenya, to deliver essential aid to areas affected by the ongoing drought across the Horn of Africa. We raised over £41,000 for food packs, water, goats and other needs.

We partially fundraised £10,678.74 for a borehole in Aragudad, Garissa County. This area has had insufficient rainfall for several years. Currently, water tankers are delivering water to the area however, this isn’t sustainable in the long term. The trucks travel 50km over rough desert terrain to provide remote communities with water. With a borehole we hope to create and establish a new community, centred around a water source, allowing homes, schools, and essential centres to flourish. Groundwater was found ~250m underground!

Having returned to the UK, we would like to see the project completed. Mountain of Mercy has arranged a deal with the construction contractor, for work to commence before the full amount has been raised, with the construction having started as of date. Having drilled ~250m, water was measured to be flowing out at 10,000L per hour!

During the month of Ramadan, we can empathise with communities with limited access to water. There are several merits to donating to a water project. It is a means of self-purification, a form of sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity) and a means to live.

“And whoever saves a life – it is as if he had saved all of mankind” (Qur’an, 5:32)

The fundraising goal is a substantial sum. Over the coming weeks we plan to host fundraising activities for all to join, and are open to volunteers to place pledges towards the project.
