Bugsby needs your help!!

  • Hi I’m Angela who runs Angus Cat Rescue we are desperately raising funds for this special boy who was originally found by the Dighty Burn in Dundee beside his carrier by a very kind dog walker who handed him into a local vets practice. This wee lad was absolutely smothered in fleas and it was confirmed by the finder that he had in fact been there for over 24 hours. We were contacted and did bring him into foster within the rescue and promoted posts around the areas of social media in the hope that an owner would come forward but they never did. After 2 weeks we had Bugsby to the vets as he seemed under the weather and it was found that he had a temperature so treatment was given and once back to normal we started his vaccinations and had him castrated etc ready for a new home. As it was so close to Christmas he stayed in his foster home until into the New Year. Once New Year was out of the way we matched him for rehoming to a lovely indoor home. Bugsby settled well into his new home but was being a bit picky with his food so was taken for a check up and again it was found that he had a temperature and again treatment was given by the vets. A few weeks later it was found that he was very wobbly on his legs and his appetite had decreased again and also he had a uveitis so again he was back to the vets and blood tests etc were done and the diagnosis at that point was toximaplosis and so treatment was started and Bugsby responded well and improved for the length of the antibiotics but as soon as these were finished it was clear that there was another problem. And this point another blood test was taken and sent to the lab to check for the toximaplosis plus other parasites etc. this test came back within the week and was a negative for toximaplosis but very much a positive for FIP. Poor Bugsby was deteriorating before everyone’s eyes and needed help so we took the decision to have the vets start the treatment for FIP this was on the Thursday and the drugs arrived on the Saturday morning so the treatment started on Saturday evening, I should also mention that because of the eye he was in fact diagnosed with dry neuro FIP. Bugsby was such a good boy having to be in the vets for the first treatment and the 12 hours after as had fluids run through at the same time, and on collecting him in the morning it was a delight to know that he was brighter in himself just with that first treatment so the following 2 nights he was taken into the vets for the infusion and each night it was amazing to see the slow changes. The battle was to get him to eat which was won with syringing for the first 24 hours and then he started to go to the bowl himself, the wobbly boy was slowly gaining his strength! He is now 2 weeks into his treatment and has been switched from infusions to tablets which he takes without much fuss for now although this might change as he gains weight and condition as he can be a bit of a cheeky lad! So we are really looking for help to continue to save this wee guys life a life that was originally abandoned in Dundee by the Dighty Burn!
21.30 Huge thank you to each and everyone who has donated so far we really do appreciate I am blown away! I will raise the total needed and then check in with the vets tomorrow to get a better idea of the total we require for his treatment as it’s an 84 day course here or there depending on the neuro part responding to the medication. Along with this he does have additional supplements to help boost his immune system and help his liver etc. If you would like to find out anything around this please do send me a message xx

18th April update

  • Huge thank you to everyone who has donated this far, this special boy continues to amaze us with his improvements he is eating well, playing and his eye is slowly improving! He has a vets appointment on Friday, everything crossed for further improvement and a very possible increase in his daily medication!

Bugsby has had his weekly health check and the vets are so happy he has a steady weight gain and his eye is almost clear! He isn’t quite at the 2.5 kilos so hasn’t had an increase in the dosage of the medication and his next weigh in is the 2nd of May! The course of medication is around the 84 days long depending on how he is etc but everything continues to be crossed for this very special wee boy!
Not entirely happy with being in his carrier but then the next picture
is him chilling at home!

Update 1st May. Bugsby as you can see is doing amazing and we really would like to thank each and everyone who has very kindly donated so far! We will continue to update as he goes through his journey which you can see with the photos he is thriving and gaining a slow and steady amount of weight at each check in at the vets which will mean in the not too distance future we will have to have his medication increased currently this is £60 per day but will obviously change as the increases happen so every £1 we raise really does help us to help this gorgeous wee boy.
