Buggies For Refugees in Greece
Donation protected
One buggy costs £28.
My name is Gaby and I'm the mother of a one year old, living in London. I recently read that there was a huge need for buggies in Greece. Hundreds of refugee mothers who have fled warzones in Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere, have very young children but do not have buggies.
I got in touch with volunteers at one of the refugee camps and I started plotting how I could get 2nd hand buggies from all my friends and take them out to Greece.
After thinking about the logistics of that, I realised that it would be more sensible for the buggies to be purchased in Greece ... and for me to help fundraise for them here in London.
Just in the past couple of days, Alison Terry-Evans, a volunteer doing amazing work with refugees in Lesvos, Idomeni and elsewhere in Greece, has told me she has been able to obtain 100 buggies for women in the refugee camps.
Alison has bargained the buggies down to 35 euros each (and the shop selling them was sympathetic to the cause). She says that each buggy is the mother's freedom to get up and out of the tent and be able to get food etc.
So I'm helping to fundraise here for some of those buggies. Buy a refugee mummy a buggy! The cost is 35 euros each. That is £28.
Thank you very much for your help !
Please note that the commissions levied by this website will be covered by me. ALL of your donation will go to the buggies.
For more information about Alison Terry-Evans and her extensive work with refugees in Greece, see this Facebook page about her work as the Dirty Girls of Lesvos. This project has been laundering refugees clothes and blankets on Lesvos for more than 6 months. They collect refugees' clothes and have them laundered at a commercial laundry. They have cleaned more than 100 tonnes of laundry!
