My name is Buffy Sierra & I am launching this fundraiser on my 30th birthday to support my recovery from multiple gender-affirming procedures that will require time off work, considerable resources for rest, recuperation, and healing.

I am an artist, writer, and musician who curates, produces, and performs live works of art across contexts from museums and theaters to bars and clubs. I am a part-time staff member at an arts non-profit and a gig worker in several fields.

Until recently I had not given myself permission to dream about what I want for my medical transition. But a few months ago I finally got access to comprehensive health care and it changed everything. Now I feel a sense of freedom when I think about the future, and I need my community's help to follow through on my pursuit of bodily autonomy.

This year I will undergo several gender affirming treatments and procedures to align my physical form with my spiritual desires. The first of these will be a hairline reconstruction procedure on March 31. I will also continue with electrolysis and laser hair removal, and I plan to resume therapy with a mental health counselor and psychiatrist. In the next few months I hope to confirm dates for more invasive gender-affirming medical procedures.

I will need support to offset the costs of living and recovering in the year to come, including rent, bills, and supplies like groceries and medications. I will take time off work and will need to replace income from the high volume gigs and projects lost over the course of treatment and recovery.

My ultimate hope is to build a structure of rest and serenity for myself and my loved ones amidst and against a world that wants so many of us gone. Your support, through donation, sharing, and supporting this campaign will be invaluable to improving the quality of my life.
