Bud’s having some trouble! He needed emergency surgery yesterday, and is in NC State Veterinary School Hospital. An extensive acute infection appeared on our way home to Maine, although i think he had been dealing with the beginning of it longer than we knew. No idea where this came from, but i shudder to think where we would be if i had waited another day. We are incredibly lucky this hospital was in our reach, as it is THE state of the art teaching hospital and able to handle any problems.
He was immediately admitted yesterday and rushed to surgery. I visited him very briefly this morning and he was stable, but heavily sedated and medicated. Now we need to wait for cultures to grow to ensure we have the correct antibiotics for his full recovery, and be sure it is healing appropriately. Fortunately there is an affordable campground nearby for me to sleep safely.
I have been told it will be a week in the hospital, here. Yikes! As you can imagine (i was shocked!) the cost is astronomical.
I am not used to, nor entirety comfortable asking for help—with anything, really. This hospital stay is over $10,000, though. (You can bet i am applying for pet insurance after this..)
Bud is a very special fellow, to me, and to all of my clients. Through the healing we do together in my office, and share with him, he reciprocates with comfort and a quiet calm presence.... as you probably already know.. any help is sincerely most appreciated.
Many of you know the story of how Bud came into my life, (my COVID baby), from PAWS in Camden... but, moreover, how difficult his early life was outside of Houston.. it was even more evident after they shaved him for surgery and his extensive scarring could be seen on his bare skin. After all he had been through, he remains the most gentle, loving, quietly attentive creature. I can’t imagine life without Bud.
