Anyone who knows me and Christian knows that our dogs are our children. Buddy has been with our family for almost 10 years and he’s been happy, healthy, and full of joy. We get him tested and examined annually to make sure he stays that way. Recently, we noticed a decrease in his energy and an apparent breathing issue and took him to our vet for diagnostics. After the vet recommended an intake at the ER for further diagnostics, and $4,000 later, we received the diagnosis that our baby has stage 4b Lymphoma.
We chose to administer some emergency medication to start his body healing, and he is already much better and back to his former self. After speaking with an oncologist, we strongly believe that a course of chemotherapy will keep him happy and healthy for potentially years to come. Unfortunately, the cost is putting a strain on our family as the full course of chemotherapy is expected to be about $13,000, on top of our initial diagnostic costs.
Fortunately, chemotherapy for dogs is NOT like it is for humans. The treatment goal is to make them feel better, and they usually don’t experience any drastic side effects.
While I recognize that not everyone will agree with our decision to do everything we can for our fur baby, we are going to pursue treatment for as long as it makes sense for Buddy’s happiness. We wouldn’t be able to live with ourselves if we didn’t try to get him treatment, especially if it keeps him happy and healthy.
Thank you to anyone who has read, forwarded, and donated. All funds will be used for Buddy’s medical care.
