Budding Roses Activity Kits and Meet-Ups
Help Budding Roses provide fun and educational social justice activities for Portland-area youth!
Budding Roses launched in 2017 as a free radical social justice summer camp in East Portland for youth in 3rd-9th grade. For three summers we provided two-week summer camps including workshops on social justice issues, art projects, outdoor recreation, and free meals and school supplies. Last year during the COVID pandemic we created and delivered 70 social justice activity kits so our campers could continue learning and creating together even while socially-distanced. Now we need your help to continue providing activity kits and in-person meet-ups for our youth!
This summer we are once again delivering social justice activity kits loaded with zines, art activities, and school supplies for our campers. We are also hoping to relaunch our in-person programming with meet-ups during the school year and another two-week summer camp in 2022. To make this happen we need your support to buy supplies and food, secure accessible meeting spaces, and provide stipends to compensate the time and hard work of our organizers and counselors.
About Us:
Budding Roses is a volunteer collective of educators, activists, and students from the community. We strive to provide a free, safe and encouraging space for East Portland youth to learn, express themselves, and engage critically with the issues of social justice that they encounter as members of our community. We seek to help youth cultivate the necessary tools to be active community members through experiences of collective decision-making and provide opportunities to lead and facilitate through direct involvement in democratic education.
