Joe’s dad, Budd Osmon has spent a lifetime of traveling all around the United States with his family. Over the past 5 years they have been living in New Mexico with family. About 3 months ago Budd and his wife Doris decided to move on to Kentucky to be closer to their young grand children. Budd has had numerous strokes over the past five years but other than speech impairment, his health was good. His doctor cleared him to travel to Kentucky and thought the younger children would be good for him. He got to Kentucky and was happy, exercising and loving being around the kids. After 8 days of being in his new home, he had a stomach ache and was very tired. So for 2 days Joe and I had chalked it up as stress, worn out and maybe just a stomach bug. By the third morning he still wasn’t doing well and Doris said she had never seen him sleep like this before. I came to their apartment and forced him to go to the ER just to get checked out. Countless blood tests, EKG, Chest X-Ray and fluids they felt that he needed to be transported to a larger hospital that had a cardiology lab. Once at the hospital they did a ultrasound and found some gallstones but nothing major or requiringa His white blood count was up a bit and so was his kidney levels, but the doctor believed that the gallstones was the cause of his pain in his stomach. At 4pm the following day after he was admitted overnight Joe had talked to the doctor, the nurses and case manager and they said he was doing well, Eating, drinking and sitting in a chair. They were going to write up discharge papers for the following day. By 6:30pm that night Joe gets the call that “I’m sorry Joe, your dad has died!” What, this couldn’t be happening he was about to be discharged and was doing well. Within 2 1/2 hours of the last phone call he was gone. The cause of death was dead bowel. It was a blood clot to the colon, which caused complete organ failure quickly. There was no chance for survival. So now instead of envisioning a life with family near and bringing joy to our kids, watching them grow up was not his fate. Budd was a proud man and never asked for handouts. With his death being sudden, even at 83 he has left his wife of 43 years, now getting 1 social security check a month and that check doesn’t even cover the rent on their apartment they just moved into. So we ask in lieu of cards or flowers we are setting up this page in the hopes that we can help Doris with the costly funeral expenses that were unplanned.
