Hi y'all!
You probably know me from family reunions, rare posts on Facebook, or one of the many hobbies I’ve taken up in adulthood. This year, I’ve formally come out as trans non-binary, which has been such a joy and a relief—well, if I stay away from the news. It’s no secret this year has been incredibly challenging for everyone, and becoming part of the trans community while there is such harsh, fresh vitriol from the government and media has been challenging, to say the least. But it does give me hope that despite all of the anger from bigots, my trans siblings and I continue to come out and show out.
After much care and consideration, I decided to begin medically transitioning this fall, starting testosterone in August. Testosterone was a big step for me, with a lot of uncertainty (I mean, who really wants to go through puberty again over 30?). But something that I knew was most important to me was top surgery. I could try to bind and tape my chest back, but top surgery will allow me to permanently feel at home in my body and help affirm my identity.
I was lucky enough to find a surgeon who could book me for a top surgery date this upcoming January, but medical & post-op care costs are steep even with private insurance, and the film industry has been tight on work this year. So, I am raising funds to help alleviate the financial burden of my top surgery this upcoming January—including medical bills, post-op care needs (medicine, scar care, supplements, making my apartment recovery-friendly), and other associated costs. My deductible is $3500 before any additional out-of-pocket costs, but any amount helps. <3
If you are local and would also/instead like to help take care of me while I recover next year, please text or email me and I will add you to the volunteer list :)
Much love, Bucky <3
