Barry Brown is a 61 year-old employee at Cumulus Media in Wilkes-Barre. He’s worked with 979X, Magic 93, 95.7/97.1 BHT, and NASH FM 93.7 for over 12 years. Barry is a devoted, hardworking asset here at Cumulus. We can certainly say, the stations and the atmosphere in the building wouldn’t be the same without Barry Brown.
Back in August 2017, Barry was diagnosed with stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. Five months later, Barry still takes oral chemo each day (which costs roughly $12,000 per month if your insurance weren’t to cover it), but still manages to go on with his everyday life. When the sun is up, so is Barry. He wakes up each morning, puts his boots on and shows up to work for the love of radio and the community—all done with a smile on his face. All of us in the building would say Barry is a goal-digger… He strives to hit his daily goals in and out of the building, and beating renal carcinoma is his current goal.
Barry Brown’s mind is set on beating cancer, for himself and for every other person who has gone through the same pain and heartache that doesn’t deserve it.
That’s why we here at 979X are asking for donations in Barry Brown’s honor, to present to the Renal Race on Sunday, March 11th at Public Square in Wilkes-Barre. 979X will present the money directly as it will then be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to aid in funding kidney cancer research and treatment.
