The Firebird Family at Johnson Junior High School is raising funds for one of our colleagues, Tamera Britt, whom we dearly know as Tami or Mrs. Britt. Mrs. Britt's 30th year in education was thwarted by Post-concussion syndrome (PCS) as she was faced with the tough decision to take an undesired step back from the classroom at the start of 2024. PCS profoundly impacts an individual's physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning and is triggered by activities that require physical exertion or sustained attention. PCS also makes it challenging or nearly impossible to engage in day-to-day tasks, let alone engage in the rigorous activity that comes with shaping the minds of our Firebirds.

Mrs. Britt wishes to return to her career as an educator, but she needs a little help to get there. To manage PCS, Mrs. Britt needs to prioritize treatment, which involves medication to manage symptoms, cognitive and physical therapy to help improve functioning and rest to allow the brain to recover fully. This time away from her career and employment has created a storm of stressors as it's incredibly costly to seek the necessary treatment—but with your contribution, we can positively impact Mrs. Britt's ability to focus on resting and recovering. The money from this fund will go toward medical insurance coverage and treatment as Mrs. Britt's family and medical leave will soon expire. Our Johnson family could never fully repay Mrs. Britt for everything she has done throughout her 30-year career. Still, we seek to alleviate or help support the burdens PCS has caused as she is a pillar of the teaching community at Johnson Junior High School and deeply valued by colleagues, parents, and, most importantly, her former and current students. Those who are blessed to ever be in the presence of Mrs. Britt know how special she is, but our Johnson family gets a first-row seat to the passion, kindness, and excitement with which she approaches education.
