Hello! My name is LeAnne and I met and took Bel home when he was two year's old. I learned about Bel when I worked for Camp Kostopulos Dream Foundation, a camp that serves individuals with disabilities; where I managed the equestrian program at the time. Bel, as a yearling, had experienced an accident resulting in some facial nerve damage. He had a cute curley lip that pulled to the side when you looked at him head on, and one ear that did not fully rotate.Bel did not let this stop him and I knew right then he was the horse for me. For the past 12 years, Bel has been a stoic and courageous horse that has given his heart to what ever I asked. However, the last week and a half have been difficult as Bel has struggled with a fast growing tumor in his sinus cavity. This tumor has blocked his nasal cavity, making it difficult to breathe and creating immense pressure and pain. He has been in and out of the vet in Utah with lots of consultation on how to help him.
Bel's last option was to go to the Equine Veterinary Unit at Colorado State University as they have the technology and expertise to help. With the tumor rapidly growing, I urgently took Bel to Colorado. On Friday, Bel underwent a major surgery where they have to remove a piece of his skull in order to access the 12 inch tumor.
At this time, Bel and I are grateful to the knowledgeable medical staff and the amazing support of Bel's many friends and followers. More than anything, Bel and myself are appreciative of all the love and support we have received over the last few days. While the thoughts and concerns are greatly appreciated, I am also forced into a position where I am asking for support in the cost of removing his tumor and the aid he will need for a succesful recovery. Any support you can give is greatly appreciated.
