Hi! My name is Stephanie (age 24). Daughter to the one and only Johnson. I am here fundraising for him. The greatest dad in the world. My dad and I are both from Ontario, Canada. My dad is currently battling Stage 4 Prostate Cancer which he was diagnosed with in the summer of 2021. I want to make one of his bucket list dreams come true, by helping him with his bucket list car – a used Porche Macan.
Even though he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer, his story is much more complicated than that.
My dad is 56 years old; he is a type 1 diabetic and has been since he was 16 years old. In late 2006 he went through kidney failure and had to undergo dialysis from a home setup for 9 hours every day. He was placed on the kidney transplant list but as you know that can take years – by the grace of God it turned out that my mom, his wife (ex-wife now) was a perfect match to donate one of her kidneys to him. The transplant happened on February 8th of 2007. He has now been a kidney transplant recipient for 16 years! It has been a blessing that he has remained ‘the healthiest sick guy’ for such a long run.
In July of 2021 he went for normal routine check-ups which came back with some abnormal results and through follow-up testing and scans they discovered that he had stage 4 prostate cancer. Since he is a kidney transplant recipient, he’s always been on ‘anti-rejection’ drugs which suppress your immune system so your body doesn’t attack the foreign body (the kidney). Unfortunately, because of these circumstances, it did allow the cancer to spread to other places in his body like his spine, pelvis, and some lymph nodes. He has been blessed with great doctors who do their best to manage and treat the cancer without compromising his kidney transplant and diabetes.
He first started with a pill treatment for his cancer which was effective for a while but didn’t last. He began a radiation cycle of 5 treatments total in late September due to severe hip pain where the cancer had been spreading and intensifying since day one. The radiation therapy was to help with the pain but was not an efficient method to treat his cancer since it’s throughout his body in many different places. Unfortunately, he did get news that the pill treatment has been becoming less effective and that he had to start a 10-treatment cycle of chemotherapy which he recently did in late October. Chemotherapy has been an adjustment. The biggest being side effects affecting him the most like; extreme fatigue, mouth sores, and sore joints. But he continues to push through.
Through everything my dad continues to be an inspiration. His positivity and perseverance is what we all believe to be superhuman. He continues to wake up every morning at 5:30am. He still works his full-time IT job. And is always an amazing dad to myself and my younger sister (age 22), an amazing brother to his siblings and an amazing friend to all.
My dad is so full of life, he is always the life of the party – he is hilarious and so charismatic and bright. With everything that my dad has faced in his life, he continues to rise and persevere through it all. This time around it’s been kind of hard on him but every day he does continue to put his best foot forward.
I want to make this dream come true. I want to help him achieve his bucket list goal that he’s wanted for so long and put off for too long! He has tried to save and set this car as a goal for his 55th birthday back in 2021 but unfortunately life kind of got in the way. His 10th chemotherapy treatment should be at the end of April 2023, and I would LOVE to gift this to him! So, if you can give to help me in making this dream come true it would mean the world to me! Whatever you are comfortable with, whatever you can do, nothing is too small or too big! Haha!
Thank you so much in advance, even just for reading about his story.
God bless.
