Bucket List Trek on the Camino
Donation protected
As I approach my 73rd birthday, I humbly ask for your assistance in hiking El Camino de Santiago in Spain…well at least 70 miles of it anyway...from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. When my neighbor recently invited me to join him on the trek in mid March, the end of the off-season, I felt a surge of energy and determination, because it's been on my Bucket List for years.
If you’re not familiar with El Camino, the 2010 film “The Way”, with Martin Sheen and Emilio Estavez, is a beautiful movie and a great way to appreciate the route and the challenge. In one of the most poignant scenes, Martin Sheen asks the innkeeper if she’s walked El Camino. She wistfully replies, “Unfortunately, I was too busy when I was young, and now I’m too old.”
I feel like this is my time.
Two & a half years after my open heart surgery I feel strong. I typically hike at least 20 miles a week on the nearby hills and even my doctor is encouraging me to achieve this goal.
I’m also mindful of how influential it is for me to personally demonstrate to my 16 grandkids the importance of striving for goals and dreams, whether in the first part…or toward the last part…of Life.
Any amount, no matter how small, would be very much appreciated. I plan to use it to pay for my transportation. Even if you’re unable to help out, THANK YOU for reading this far.
And if you’d like to join me, please drop me a note or give me a call. Either way, BUEN CAMINO!
