On March 31st, our beautiful friend Michelle Curran was diagnosed with breast cancer. For those of you that know her, you know that she is an EXTRAORDINARY human being. She is a loving, caring, smart, cheerful, unbelievably strong person, and always puts her family and friends first.
Since she was diagnosed she has met with the oncologist, had the first of many biopsies, blood work,and genetic testing. Her first surgery will be April 8th, to remove the initial tumor & remove a lymph node for biopsy. She has tentatively been diagnosed as Stage 1, which is great news. However, one of the tumor characteristics, the HER-2 receptor is positive, which causes more aggressive growth. This will require chemo for the next year, along with radiation.
The surgery is only the beginning of many more demanding treatments in which insurance will not cover all of the costs. When the costs of lost work hours are factored in for the next year, things begin to add up quickly.
Unfortunately, her husband was also furloughed 2 weeks ago, in the midst of the pandemic, which only adds to the stress and uncertainty for her family right now.
Michelle has a heart of gold, as witnessed by her recent acts to help her community by gathering needed items for seniors and others in need during this pandemic. Showing that even during a very stressful and trying time in her life, she would do anything to help out any one of us in our time of need. So I'm asking at this vulnerable time in her life that we rally behind her as she takes on this fight. Every penny and every prayer counts. A little goes a long way and would help alleviate the stress of monetary issues.
