On January 31st Richard starting having stroke symptoms and was transported by ambulance to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria Illinois, about an hour away from his home. After arriving, family learned both of Richards carotid arteries were completely clogged, resulting in zero blood flow to his brain, which in turn caused a blood clot to form in his brain. Doctors performed an angiogram and were able to partially clear one artery enough to get blood flow up to 80%. They also performed a surgery to remove the blood clot. This surgery was successful but caused a significant amount of brain damage. He was put on a ventilator and sedated for a majority of the time. Richard's right side is also paralyzed and he is not able to speak. He has since been taken off the ventilator, had a feeding tube placed and is no longer sedated. But the doctors are now concerned with Richard having aspiration pneumonia. There are ups and downs, good days and bad days, but all in all, extremely stressful for his family. His wife, Sue, has been faithfully by his side the entire time, but unfortunately not being able to work has caused a tremendous financial burden to be placed on her shoulders. Richard has been a pastor most of his adult life, helping others in their time of need, praying fervently for the people he cares for, and also loving his kids and grandkids. This set back in health is going to have a long road to recovery and donations of any size or amount will be greatly appreciated.
