In Loving Memory of Bu Tar Pa
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Bu Tar Pa — a beloved husband, father, son-in-law, friend, colleague and community leader whose kindness and light touched everyone who knew him.
Bu was the kind of person who could turn a difficult day into a good one simply by walking into the room. Always smiling, always laughing, he carried a gentle shyness that he continually worked to overcome, paired with a positive energy that made people feel seen, welcome, and cared for. Bu was happy, sweet, helpful, and unfailingly friendly. His presence brought warmth and comfort, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
Born in 1989, Bu grew up in a refugee camp in Myanmar along the Thailand border. Despite the hardships he faced early in life, Bu carried hope, resilience, and determination with him. In 2018, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Kitchener, Ontario, where he built a life centered around family, faith, and community.
When Bu arrived in Canada, he could not speak English, but he was enthusiastic, driven, and eager to learn. Through hard work and perseverance, he created opportunities for himself and his family. He worked as a custodian with Plant Operations at the University of Waterloo, where he was highly respected by both coworkers and management. Bu was known as a reliable, kind, and dedicated colleague, and his loss is deeply felt within the university community.
Bu was a proud member of the Karen community and was recently selected to serve as Community Leader (Chairperson) in 2025. This role was given to him because of the trust he earned through his generosity, honesty, and willingness to always show up for others. Whether supporting community events, helping families in need, or offering a listening ear, Bu gave freely of himself.
Above all else, Bu was a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his loving wife, Htoo Paw Bwe, their three young children aged 10, 7, and 2, and his mother-in-law, all of whom depended on him as their sole provider. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and his greatest pride was caring for them.
Bu was also a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church in Kitchener, Ontario, where he found spiritual strength, fellowship, and purpose.
This GoFundMe has been created to support Bu’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Donations will help provide financial stability, cover immediate expenses, and support his wife and children as they navigate life without him. Any contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Bu’s family in your thoughts and prayers.
Bu Tar Pa lived a life of love, service, and quiet strength. His legacy will continue through the lives he touched, the community he served, and the family he cherished. Thank you for helping us honor his memory and support those he loved most.
