Message from Toni (Lucy’s mom):
Our middle daughter Lucy(6 years old) has been diagnosed with aplastic anemia and has been undergoing countless tests at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. Aplastic anemia is a rare blood condition that has caused Lucy’s body to stop producing enough blood cells (white, red, and platelets). Lucy has been transfusion-dependent since we arrived at BC children’s hospital, receiving blood and platelets weekly.
Lucy has been undergoing inpatient chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant. Lucy and I will be in isolation at the hospital for the coming 6-8 weeks and then we will remain in Vancouver for the coming 4-6 months, but she will remain a patient of BC Children’s for the remainder of her life for follow up tests to check cell levels.
Lucy’s best chance at reversing her aplastic anemia is a bone marrow transplant. Our daughter Charlotte (4 years old)is a genetic match to be Lucy’s bone marrow donor. A blessing we are incredibly grateful for as a full sibling match is not the case for many families.
Our oldest daughter Amelia(9 years old) is thankfully being cared for by her grandparents on Vancouver Island. My husband Dallas and I have been balancing life by travelling back and forth from Ronald McDonald House and home.
Our family is fighting this condition together, and so incredibly proud of Lucy's strength and resilience. In the meantime, we would like to share with you a go-fund-me page to assist with travel costs, new supplies needed while away, and food. I have been off work since July 22, and I am not sure when I will return.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s support at this time. We would like to raise our hands to everyone and say
Huy tseep q’u (Thank you all),
