My 4yr-old cat Addie has had a really rough 2 weeks; since Feb 11 she has been to:
- veterinary urgent care for gagging/lethargy/lack of eating
- a 3-day stay at her primary vet for not pooping, extreme intestinal gas buildup, not eating, and a fever
- a brief stay at home with tons of drugs and still lethargy, low appetite, and days of no bowel movement
- until last Thursday when she came went limp in my arms and into respiratory distress, breathing rapidly with mouth open
At that point, she was rushed to the 24hr vet hospital. I had not considered her days of health problems would lead to me signing documents choosing if the vet hospital should or shouldn’t try to resuscitate should she go into cardiac arrest. Truly the scariest cat-parent moment of my life.
She was kept in high oxygen and dosed with albuterol and steroids over 12hrs to try to stabilize her breathing. Her diagnostics are ongoing because they couldn’t find a sufficient cause, but she is now home and eating more.
The visits felt all necessary and in her best interest, but I’ve also now garnered over $6.5k of vet bills on two credit cards in less than 20 days. I’m an PhD student and two full stipends wouldn’t cover these bills >.< Anything to help would be so appreciated.
