Birch Tree Bookstore: Save the Store

WHO WE ARE

I am Monica, the owner, operator, social media manager, event planner, and sole employee of Birch Tree Bookstore (if you don't count my mom and 6-year-old who help all they can...). I opened Birch Tree Bookstore in honor of my late father, Burchell "Burch" Smith, in May 2024. When my dad was in hospice care, the local bookstore was such a welcomed reprieve for me and my daughter. I wanted to bring the same opportunity to our area and create a safe, warm, welcoming community space for all.

BOOKS

We offer a diverse selection of mostly new and some used books for all ages in all genres. We even have a trade-in credit program for books in great condition! We have a little bit of everything for everybody and offer pre-orders for new publications and special orders for books we don't carry.

PAINT YOUR OWN POTTERY

We also offer paint-your-own pottery in our back studio, open anytime the store is open, for all ages and all skill levels. This is a perfect activity to have fun and get creative for kids, family outings, solo sanity trips, team building, girls' days, etc.

DONATE

Locals are well aware of the highly disruptive roadwork occurring at our main intersection. I was unaware of the project when I signed a lease and have seen sales plummet since the construction began. The store is not seeing foot traffic as I expected it would due to the headache at Dallas Acworth Hwy and Cedarcrest. I don't blame you. If I didn't work here, I wouldn't come out here either. HOWEVER, I do work here... and the store is suffering.

Your contribution to this fundraiser allows us to make it until the roadwork is complete, then hopefully locals will truly enjoy our location! Your donation will be used to cover operational costs each month including rent, insurance, bills, and new inventory (and nothing else). Your contribution would free my family from the financial burden of covering the costs on slower months because I truly want to stay open, and I know you want that too!
