Help Matt Fight for His Life After a Medical Crisis

What started as a simple stomach ache quickly turned into a life-threatening battle for Matt.

On October 1st, Matt went to the emergency room with severe abdominal pain. A CT scan revealed diverticulitis, and he was sent home with antibiotics.

The next day, Matt’s condition worsened. He returned to the ER in even more pain. A second CT scan revealed a micro-perforation in his colon. This time, he was given a choice: go home or stay. Matt chose to stay. He was admitted to the GI unit for closer monitoring.

After a week in the hospital, Matt was discharged on October 9th, hoping the worst was behind him.

But things took a terrifying turn.

On October 10th, Matt began violently vomiting, and the doctor’s office urgently advised him to return to the ER. When he arrived, his condition had worsened significantly—he was septic, and the perforation in his colon was far worse than initially anticipated. Things escalated quickly, and Matt was rushed into emergency surgery for life-threatening complications from diverticulitis. Tragically, he aspirated just before the induction of anesthesia.

By October 11th, Matt was in critical condition. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) by ambulance, where he was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and multiple organ failure.

Matt is now fighting for his life in the ICU. The road ahead is uncertain and overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. His family is doing everything they can to support him, but they can't do it alone.
