I said I wouldn’t do this again. But my circumstances have changed and Max is sick again and I’ve lost my job.

On 3/1, Max was suffering from an asthma attack that had been going on for three or four days to the point where he needed his rescue inhaler every hour. I would check on him in the middle of the night to find him laid out, not moving except for really heavy, labored breathing and he was panting with his mouth open and tongue sticking out.

So we made the decision to take him to the emergency vet again because our regular vet is closed on the weekends.

After checking him out, getting him into an oxygen cage, the tech laid out the care plan and costs. $3500 for 24 hours there, X-rays and a myriad of meds.

My daughter and I spent almost an hour trying to come up with the money. She applied for Carecredit but only for $2200. So we tried hitting all the fast loan places, credit card companies that we could to try and find the rest of the money but were denied.

The tech came back and we had to tell her we just didn’t have all the money. So they revised his care plan to be 12 hour care in the facility, no X-rays of his lungs, less meds and we got it down as long as we maxed out my daughter’s Carecredit account. I also have Carecredit which I had used on a previous visit to the emergency room and a regular vet visit.

We are hoping to reach $4000 to cover both Carecredits and save us two monthly payments we cannot really afford now that I am unemployed (I lost the job on 2/18.)

I don’t want to do this again. I feel like it’s too much to ask of friends, family, and strangers. But I’m desperate. I don’t want my cat to suffer and struggle to breathe anymore . He’s such a good boy.
