Hello friends and loved ones!

We are in a collective state of ongoing disbelief regarding today's situations. The lines are blurred between what's wrong or right, decisions smart or dumb, and generally how to act at this time.
We are all impacted by this marked time in human history, and choosing our battles.

I feel especially sensitive to the lives of our Native American brothers and sisters. Like other minority groups and lower income communities, they have been disproportionately affected by the coronavirus. The difference is, as history has written it, the native American communities in the United states are separated from the American government, including health services, social services, public safety, and law enforcement. Because of this, they are completely dependent on money from casinos and other tribal businesses to pay taxes to support themselves. Right now, this isn't so possible. They are facing the harshest realities of this pandemic with zero tax base for health clinics, minimal resources, and already predisposed communities to heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions.

The most impacted of all is the Navajo community, the largest reservation in the states, with death rates that quickly surpassed New York and New Jersey.

You may be wondering why, with all the news you have been watching, you weren't aware of this?
Mass news media simply does not cover the perils of our native american communities. It is devastating and it is reality how segregated the lives of cultures that make up the very roots of our country are from the rest of society.

I have been back and forth the past few months doing deliveries of essential supplies with the wonderful nonprofit NavajoStrong, as well as helping out families I have personally connected with who have been devastated by the virus. Your monetary donation would help us continue to get food supplies, water supplies, animal food, farm bounty, and whatever else families may specifically request for survival at this time. In addition it will help me to be able to keep making trips to the reservation in efforts to remain personal and honest.

Each trip I have made has opened my heart and eyes more to the severity of life on the reservation. We are all needed here, for one another. To reach out our hands and hold our brothers and sisters up, within this giant human family.

Breath is everything. And as we have it.. Continue to tell those you love you love them. And always, keep hope alive. The mind is more powerful in controlling entire situations than we can fathom.

I love you,

Melāni
