Rupert is the sweetest Pomeranian-Shiba Inu mix that you'll ever meet. On Sunday May 9th, 2021, while playing with his pup-brother Arthur, Rupert fell over 8 feet off the back deck.
Given that it was Mother's Day, and living in an isolated area without an emergency vet, Joey and his family had to drive over 70 miles to Wheat Ridge, CO for him to be seen immediately.
After waiting an hour at the Emergency Vet, Joey was informed that Rupert had experienced an R/U fracture as well as possibly dislocating his shoulder and would have to stay overnight for monitoring and surgery the next day.
Later that evening, the Emergency Vet called and informed Joey that Rupert could be experiencing liver issues and that they were going to do an ultrasound prior to surgery to determine if this was caused by the fall or could have been a previous issue.
The surgery alone is estimated to cost anywhere between $6000-$7500 and will require at least 8 weeks recovery as well as recurring vet visits to monitor his healing and the liver issues the Emergency Vet found. During that time, Rupert's activity will have to be monitored 24 hours a day because he's an active pup. If Joey could, he would take the whole 8 weeks off just to be with his furbaby, but as we all know, life doesn't work that way. Thankfully his family has offered to help watch him, but 8 weeks of 24/7 monitoring is a huge undertaking.
I started this GoFundMe because after the scariest 48 hours Joey has ever experienced, all I want is for him to be able to focus on holding Rupert as much as he can while he's not at work. Worrying about vet medical bills is the last thing he needs right now.
