As many of you know Emily and Tyler were blessed with a beautiful baby boy on March 22nd 2022. Braxton was 9lbs 4oz and every bit of a miracle that our family and friends have been praying for. Less than 24 hours of life Braxton was airlifted to the NICU at UMC in Lubbock, TX.

Upon first arrival Braxtons amazing team of doctors decided to treat him for Necrotizing enterocolitis, or NEC. As we learned NEC is a serious illness usually in premature infants were the infants have tiny holes in there intestines from not being developed fully.

After 4 days of Braxton not being able to eat and receiving his nutrition through IVs his stomach swelling had not gotten better and the doctors decided if it was NEC he would be a lot sicker. Though it was a blessing he wasn’t sicker the doctors were not sure what was causing Braxtons intestines to swell.

The doctors then needed to do a lot more testing. This was hard to hear for our family because we just wanted answers.

After some time and some positive news of his inflammation going down the doctors decided that our little guy needed to poop! #prayforpoop

After 11 days and a lot of progress from Braxton the doctors looked at one last x-ray and said it looked like Braxton had pretty much passed all of the blockage he had and decided to send him home!

Braxton was home for almost a month adjusting to life when his parents could tell Braxton was in a lot of pain and that something wasn’t right.

Emily and Tyler made an appointment with his pediatrician and after an x-ray showing Braxtons intestines full again they were told to get him back up to Lubbock.

This time in Lubbock some more extensive tests were done and Braxton was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease. Hirschsprung's disease involves missing nerve cells in the muscles of part or all of the large intestine.

Braxton will have surgery to remove the section of his intestine with the missing nerves.
