Dear friends,
Here is an update on my current situation. I finished my 2nd year at Talbot Seminary Fall of 2019. The Lord has graciously provided for me so far. I want to begin by thanking all the people who graciously gave of their time and their resources to help me stay in the U.S during the last two years so I could attend Talbot Seminary and learn how to better read and interpret God’s word, the Bible. My parents are still not aware I am attending a Bible school. As far as they know I am attending university to get a better job. They do not support me in any way for my education. They still desire me to return to India, marry someone of their choosing, and be a good Hindu and support them.
My second year at Talbot Seminary was very busy with me balancing classes, working on-campus and serving in the church. God helped me to maintain a student worker job on-campus, which I acquired during my 1st year, working the maximum number of hours that an international student can work, which is 20 hours per week, 32 hours during the summer.
I was very fortunate that one of the first classes I took this past semester was a “Pastoral Ministry” class. The purpose of this class was to study the pastor’s call and role in ministry. This class was very significant to me along with other opportunities I received in church to invest in my life group that I lead along with other relationships. These opportunities have helped me confirm my calling to be a pastor. I also mentioned in my previous letter that I am being mentored by a (now retired) Bible prof. Walt Russell. As I continued to build relationship with him over these past two years, he opened his home to live with him and his wife for free while I attend seminary as they both are retired now. This has been huge for me in terms of my spiritual growth. I have been attending Friends Church Yorba Linda with them for almost two years as I am very impressed by their partnership with a ministry in India, which builds local schools for lowest caste people and see firsthand, the life change that happens in the lives of children and their families, when given the opportunity of a quality education. I also host a life group for Young Adults on the Sunday nights, which specializes in personal spiritual growth encouraging evangelism in the neighborhood. I am very grateful for the time I spend here, learning God’s word and finding God’s purpose for my life. I have grown spiritually so much in these past two years because of the school and church I am attending. I hope to continue attending Talbot Seminary as long as the Lord allows.
I also was very blessed by some generous people who helped finance my classes this last two years. My student worker job supports my food, car insurance, gas, phone bill and car repairs budget to get to school daily. I would encourage you to support me in prayer this next year as God provides for my needs for the coming semesters. I cannot stay here and continue my biblical studies without you. God bless you all. If God puts on your heart to financially partner with me in the coming year, I would greatly appreciate it.
Note: In order to sign up for a payment plan and make 50% down payment, the deadline is January 12. If I don't then my classes will be dropped, which means I won't be a student and I will be illegal as I am here on a student visa. You can donate here or call "Biola University" directly at (562)-903-4760 and give them my name "Sachin Kumar Shinde" and student ID no. "01748585" to donate.
