BSA Eagle Scout: Pool Equipment Shelter Rebuild

My name is Lucas Spangler. I am a high school senior and Life Scout in Troop 384 and have been in Scouting since the 2nd grade. Scouting has been a huge part of my life and has allowed me to experience many outdoor adventures camping, canoeing, and backpacking. Scouting has shaped me into a better person, teaching me first aid, citizenship, and conservation, as well as instilling a desire to serve others.

I am currently working towards completing my journey in Scouting through obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. In order to achieve this rank, I am planning, developing, and providing leadership in a service project for an orphanage and school in Baja California called Rancho Santa Marta. Located 130 miles south of San Diego they provide disadvantaged and special needs children in their area with housing, care, and education. I am rebuilding a structure to protect a recently installed swimming pool filter and pump for this community.

I visited the ranch this past October to work with a fellow scout to install the new pool equipment and noticed the shelter for the new equipment was in disrepair. I discussed with the ranch coordinator, Rod Struiksma, the opportunity to further contribute by rebuilding the aged shelter for my Eagle Project. Rebuilding the shelter with all new materials, enclosed with solid walls, will help protect the new equipment from weathering and ensure its longevity.

To cover purchasing materials, transportation, and food during the two-day project, I estimate the cost will be $2,000. I am requesting your help with raising this amount to cover the cost of the project. I would greatly appreciate any contribution you can make. If I am fortunate to exceed my fundraising goal, any excess money will be donated to Rancho Santa Marta to help with any of their many needs.
