Heather and Shawn Witmer on March 2, 2021 had their baby boy Bryson enter the world. Bryson was born, discharged from the hospital, went home to be with his family. Bryson has two older brothers that were excited to meet him! Although, 1 day after coming home Bryson had some major complications that no one was expecting to occur. Reading below will help better understand what occurred. Bless Bryson’s Heart will not only be a blessing to Bryson, but to Bryson’s parents as well. Bryson Scott is a tough boy who will overcome this. With the help of prayer and encouragement, please consider keeping Bryson close to your heart as well. If you are able to make a donation to help Bless Bryson’s Heart I know it will be greatly appreciated. The medical expenses that have been endured during these last few weeks have tremendously sky rocketed. Any help would be appreciated. If you are able to donate that would be wonderful and helpful! Just please keep a prayer chain going for this sweet boy.
Bryson Scott Witmer was born on Tuesday March 2nd at 4:10pm. We were cleared to take him home on Wednesday March 3rd and on the evening of Thursday March 4th we noticed Bryson was not breathing right and his skin started turning a grayish pale color. We called him an ambulance and he was taken to the ER in Martinsburg. They immediately put him on a ventilator, put him on antibiotics and started running tests. They were able to stabilize him and take him to the NICU. *(According to the Dr, there is a valve in your heart (PDA) that closes a few days after you’re born). Bryson was born with multiple defects in his heart that does not allow it to pump the blood properly throughout his body (Interrupted Aortic Arch Type B, PDA and VSD), so when that valve closed on Bryson, his heart wasn’t pumping the blood through his body like it should, causing his organs to shut down. He was transferred from Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where they had the equipment that they needed to continue running tests, which is where they were able to pinpoint the issues in his heart and realized that he needed to have heart surgery. Unfortunately, they do not do that surgery in Morgantown and had to fly him to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Bryson’s open-heart surgery took place on March 17th. The operation was completed by Dr. Morell who successfully repaired each of the issues allowing his heart to function properly. Bryson is doing well but still has a long road to recovery. He has been in Cardiac ICU for the last 2 weeks and has at least another 4-6 weeks before he can go home, as long as everything goes according to plan. We appreciate all the love and support that has been pouring out for us these last couple days and just ask for continued prayers for Bryson and to give the doctors wisdom! He is certainly a fighter, and not giving up!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your help to bless Bryson’s heart.
